Islam #9 © 1973 Tom Ferguson My careless photo skills are on display here again... some reflected light falling on the image. I was deciphering Islamic patterning, from my note/sketch books from that Morocco trip, and this one I decided to overlay a flag referencing, tongue-in-cheek, Jaspar Johns - funny that the number of stars in the pattern is 50. They really only stand out in the blue area whereas in the red area circles are more evident, overlapping circles, then flower-like pedals. That multi-layered ambiguity is part of what draws me to the kind of imagery I saw in Morocco, in hotel floor tile and in the more elaborate tomb in Marakech. |
