The top one is that figurative vein I drift back to on occasion. The second is a later head, when I was using impasto and
scumbling a lot. They're both improvisations but just from different phases in my painting. That frame on the second one
is a throw back to the late 70s when I was using those thick, overlapping frames which tended to emphasize the objectness
of the work, in opposition to the head reference, also "undermined" by the impasto.
