This is really the first painting in the series which came to completion in 2006. What i'd done prior to this
was student work, exploring, groping... here i've found my way. It doesn't represent any great originality, really it's still student
work but it now has direction, enthusiasm. I begin to work my way through Art History beginning with the Post-Impressionists and I am clear now that to grow as a painter one simply paints. You can't be what you're not so be yourself... wherever you are just go from there. This was liberating. Gone the doubt, the paralysis...now the painting!
