St. Ann © 1989 Tom Ferguson done back to back with St.
Mark after scrounging masonite drawing boards from a defunct drafting
course in Dublin, GA while doing a residency there. I was getting
interested now in thinned down paint, looking for a smooth surface to
reproduce that effect I got on glossy illustration board (cleaning a
brush). The character came from noticing people returning glassy-eyed
for seconds & thirds at an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord there. Used
her again later in a full-figure painting called The Street. Once I saw scratches in a Rembrandt, obviously from the end of his brush, I knew it was all right.
