Another instance of running across an earlier painting, from 1989, buried away and began some revision... working at Emory Library I ran across a reference to Kaiser Wilhelm who was very popular when he had a few easy victories in one of our many wars but fell from favor as time & fortune moved on. Sounds familiar... don't these politicians read history? or don't they care? Are they caught in the moment, in their own psychology, their own fear and safety seeking? Well, that sort of informs the painting, and so does humor but it's more about painting than politics. |
