This show was part of a "blitz" where I exhibited, in the same
year, this show and concurrent shows at Nexus Contemporary Art Center
and the High Museum of Art. There were modest sales as well as spin-off
exhibits & invitations to exhibit. This was the culmination of my
efforts since beginning art school in 1966. I built a body of work,
attempted to make the right people aware of that work enabling me to
present the work to an arts community & engage at a significant
level in the aesthetic dialogue.
The work in this show includes images from 1-a-day
drawing books and the heads that followed that focus, 1983-5. That
habit i've had
of doing a larger work as I wind down a particular focus... the Christmyth between the two doors is an example. In this show also are oil
pastel heads which are variations of heads i've done on canvas. There's
another instance here of an image being upside down despite it
appearing right side up when I load it. It's probably somewhere in the
html but so far I haven't found it.
