Autobio: Today's Catch 06 A neighbor threw these panels out... no idea what he used them for but aside from gesso they were ready to go for me. I had used drawings from notebooks in paintings before and thought they'd be just the thing for these panels only this time actually cut & pasted. Autobio because i'm browsing my past for these images (as well as the past of my daughter's sketch books - especially in the City Volk panel). Some of the drawings were used in paintings... Whitecap can be found here as well as Ibiza Intrique, Beach Seen Business and 20th Century Stragglers. Today's Catch refers to the couple catching each other in the lower bar scene, they being the bartender's catch, all of'em being mine... and the drawings being from notebooks that were collections or catches of ideas, thoughts, sketches of their day. Art seen as a grid for netting ideas also sets the whole thing up as Today's Catch for the viewer - this moment's experience. |
Oil on found masonite panel 48 x 32" There are more of my daughter's images in City Volk, lifted from her sketch books or stacks of drawings/paintings. The lower buildings were studies for a facade I painted on a maquette for a sculpture proposal the city of Atlanta asked me for. Lots of sketches of people I saw in meetings, on the street, subway etc; |
